Keep the Lights Burning, Abbie:

Abbie was afraid. She had never had to keep the lights burning by herself before. But many lives depended on the lighthouse, and Papa depended on Abbie. This is the exciting true story of Abbie Burgess, who single-handedly kept the lighthouse lamps lit during a tremendous storm off the coast of Maine in 1856. Book: Riding the Pony Express

Riding the Pony Express:

Content:

Riding the Pony Express tells the story of the 19th century mail service before the railroad made its way to the West Coast. Dick Park is the son of one of the riders, Katy Kelly is the daughter of a way station master, and Little Bear is an Indian boy. How the three of them lived and worked together to keep the mail moving is all part of this fast-moving tale. +7

Book: Red Sails to Capri

Red Sails to Capri:

Content:

14 year old Michelle helps his parents keep an inn in the village of Capri. One day a ship with red sails comes by, and three men come to stay at the Pagano's inn. The men said they were searching - one for beauty, one for adventure, and one for "something difficult to explain." What they found would change Michelle's life - and all of Capri - forever. This Italian book is quirky and it reads fast with a lot of back and forth dialogue. I rated it LOW for language and spiritual references due to good natured insults in Italian (stupido and such) and the Pagano's asking the "good saints to help us." I love how Michelle respects and loves his parents and his friends Pietro and Angelo, and how the characters genuinely seek to help each other. 8+

Book: Journey

Journey:

Journey
Content:

Grace and her cousin Savannah set out on a Journey to save their town. Great story arc and character development with an engaging story. I rated it LOW for violence and spiritual references due to a suspenseful encounter with a bad guy, and of course, there is a helpful fairy. I'd recommend it for 7+.

The lyrics in this book can be sung to the tune of the "Brahms Lullaby." The author came up with the lyrics when putting his daughters to sleep. when they were infants, and has become a wonderful memory now they are older.
